Course_Introduction
Petroleum Engineering deals in search of reservoirs containing oil and natural gas along with exploration, evaluation and production. Petroleum engineering is an engineering discipline concerned with the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. With the development of new technology, Petroleum engineering has become very much useful in the extraction process. Improvements in computer modeling, materials and the application of statistics, probability analysis, and new technologies like horizontal drilling and enhanced oil recovery, have also improved the toolbox of the petroleum engineer in recent decades.
Job_opprtunity
Petroleum engineers are divided into several groups such as Petroleum geologists, Reservoir engineers, Production engineers, Drilling engineers. Their work involve oil and gas extraction, production, management of material resources, research and development in labs, drilling equipment refining process. Petroleum engineers focus on production challenges, identifying, testing, and implementing methods for improving oil and gas production. They might also focus on safety issues, or maintenance support, identifying and planning upgrades of equipment or systems, economics, helping a team determine the optimum number of wells appropriate for a given operation.
Petroleum geologists find hydrocarbons by analyzing subsurface structures with geological and geophysical methods;
Reservoir engineers work to optimize production of oil and gas via proper well placement, production levels, and enhanced oil recovery techniques;
Production engineers manage the interface between the reservoir and the well through such tasks as (but not limited to) perforations, sand control, artificial lift, down hole flow control and down hole monitoring equipment.
Drilling engineers manage the technical aspects of drilling both production and injection wells.
Further Studies
The student graduate in Petroleum engineering can opt  M.E./ M.Tech. in petroleum engineering,
Target Industry
Good job opportunities for Petroleum Engineers in public as well as in corporate sector. A petroleum engineer Amy serve as a consultant to investors, banks, or other financial services firms.  One with a professional degree in petroleum technology can find employment opportunities in government undertakings like Indian Oil, Oil India Limited, HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited), BP (British Petroleum) and ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation). Freshers may find opportunities in in public undertakings as well as in corporate sector that deal with petroleum exploration and extraction.
