Electronic engineering is one of the largest and fastest growing field of engineering.It deals with electronic components, integrated circuits and microprocessors to create new and innovative devices and appliances. Electronics engineering is an engineering discipline which uses the scientific knowledge of the behavior and effects of electrons to develop components, devices, systems, or equipment (as in electron tubes, transistors, integrated circuits, and printed circuit boards) that uses electricity as part of its driving force. It denote a broad engineering field that encompasses many sub-fields including those that deal with power, instrumentation engineering, telecommunications, semiconductor circuit design, and many others. Electronics has a major role in improving productivity in industries like oil, energy, agriculture and so many other important sectors of economy. In steel, petroleum and chemical industries it is the electronic devices that direct, control and test production processes.
As the  electronic industries are now in boom, there is an excellent opportunity for advancement of electronic engineers, especially for those who keep abreast with the rapid changes in technology and new inventions.                                                           Electronics engineers work involve lay out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems, such as computer equipment, missile control instrumentation, electron tubes, test equipment, and machine tool numerical controls, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics. They work on a project through all its stages: from the initial brief for a concept; through the design and development stage; to the testing of one or more prototypes; and through to final manufacture and implementation of a new product or system.Here are two main types of graduate electronic engineer. 1.Chartered Engineers (CEng) have the greatest level of responsibility for engineering projects. They develop solutions to problems using new or existing technologies. 2.Incorporated Engineers (IEng) take responsibility for specific aspects of a project. They maintain and manage applications of current and developing technology.

Jobs are available in the Govt. and Private sectors, electronic companies and electronic industries. An electronics engineer have the opportunities to work with All India Radio, Indian Telephone Industries, MTNL, National Physical Laboratories, Civil Aviation Department; Post and Telegraph Department, Coordination Department, Bharat Electronics Limited and few other government undertakings. In the Defence Services, young engineers start as Second Lieutenants. The private units dealing with manufacture, sales and services of electronics consumer goods require large number of electronics professionals for their functioning. They  can also start their own business  by manufacturing electronic parts, goods and components.
